I Love My Park Day

Submitted by Jane Daniels on Sat, 03/02/2019 - 9:10am
Ever wonder how the trails stay open and passable? Where do those colored marks on the trees come from? Join us on "I Love My Parks Day" to take this workshop to find out about trail maintenance! The class is taught by experienced trail maintainers from the NY-NJ Trail Conference.

Trail Maintenance is clearing, cleaning, and blazing. Trail maintainers use small hand tools to clip and cut brush out of the trail, remove debris from drainage structures, and paint or hang the markers used for route finding also known as blazes.

This course helps you gain or brush up on the skills necessary to a Trail Conference Trail Maintainer Volunteer.  Skills include how to clip trail corridors, clean drainage structures, proper blazing techniques, and reporting trail conditions.

There will be a field component of this course, so be sure you wear your sturdy shoes and work gloves if you have them! If you have loppers or clippers please bring them.
