The minutes of the March 9 meeting were approved
Jane Daniels reported for Jim Brosnan, Treasurer, $48.60 was received as a donation in February. The bank balance is $3,205.62 as of March 1 A $500 donation was received at the beginning of April.
Bob Guriano reported that organizations hosting events in the park were no longer being allowed to hang banners outside the park entrance. Any park sponsored event suchs as I Love My Park Day is still allowed to hang a banner. The culvert at the northwest area of the park, just west of Parking lot 4 has been cleaned. Part of area between parking lots 3 and 4 floods. The culpret is a culvert which has now been cleared out. This and other areas would be candidates for where we plant wild flowers. Senator Terrance Murphy will be attending I Love My Park Day. Jane said she will contact his office about where to go.
Jane Daniels reported oon April 9, 11 adults and 9 middle school students helped build 72 feet of board walk. The boys hauled about 70% of the support pieces. they loaded the lumber for the decking onto a truck and then hauled it 0.3 mile from Viewland Drive to the work site. A neighbor called the Yorktown police to report kids building a skate board ramp in the park. An officer appearing at Viewland Drive and visiting the site notified the park police because the park is out of his jusidiction. Bob Guarino talked to the park police that the Friends were workiing on a project that had all the permissions. Bob will notify both police units whenever we are working in the woods. Another work trip is scheduled for April 23 from 9-12 to do trail repairs and build a box bridge.
Dianne Press reminded people that the Bird Walk with Bedford Audubon is at 7:30-8:30 am on June 25th. Meeting is at the swimming pool parking lot.
Thanks to Rick Fisher and Dianne Press, the Friends received a grant from the Hudson Valley National Heritage Area to install five signs about the history of the park. Once Jane signs the agreement, they can begin work.
I Love My Park Day is to be held on May 7th. Anwer is has publicized the event to schools, newspapers, and social media. We will be helping the boy scout haul lumber for his bridge building project. The parents of the boy working on his Eagle Scout project supply lunch to the troop members. So that the boy's parents are not supplying lunch to anyone else who comes to ILMP day, our event will be from 10-12. Jane asked that we come on site at 9. Erfrain will help set up signs directing folks to the swimming pool parking area. State Senator Terrance Murphy's office had contacted Bob that he will attend the event. Jane will contact him so that he comes to Viewland Drive.
National Trails Day is June 4 and because Jane will not be available that day, she is suggesting we hold an event the next day, late in the afternoon. Her recommendation is to hold a hike to the bridge site, starting late in the afternoon. Bob will find out when the ticket collectors close down.
Jane reported that we are waiting for an ok from the folks in Staatsburg about a bridge design. The Recreational Trails Grant is on hold until the Army Corps of Engineers approves a permit.
Charlie Castronova in contacting insurance companies to see if we can have a lower rate, has had the question raised about events. What constitutes and event? .
