President Peter Hoernes called the meeting to order at 7:35 pm.  The minutes for the July 11, 2012 meeting were approved.

Peter Hoernes has not yet contacted the pro bono lawyer about the bylaws.

Treasurer Dave Rocco reported that we have $494.92 available.

Manager’s Minute – Brian Strasavich

  • Attendance this summer has slipped likely because of the weather.
  • The pool has not operated some days and when that happens, the funds not spent are available for to pay off season employees
  • Flow meter for the swimming pool is shot.
  • Renovation of bath house is top priority in the major renovation of pool complex; the pool area is the second priority and then impervious pavement for the parking lot.
  • Making to possible for park visitors to connect with the lake. There is no sign for the boat house. Boating is only available on weekends and could be a concession.
  • For the first time a corporate group is doing a day of service. On August 9, they will be working on the fishing pier.
  • Since the trail which goes from near the drop off circle to parking lot 5 has ecological challenges that need to be met, the $4,500 designated to repair is available to be spent on other trail projects. 


The Support Connection will be holding their annual walk on October 7, which is also the day of the Yorktown Street Fair. The Yorktown Street Fair is $75 and requires an insurance certificate. It would be a better venue for drawing attention to the park and the Friends. We have trouble finding someone to be in charge of an outreach table let alone trying to staff two. Charles Castronvo offered to help, but not be in charge of the table. Jane Daniels will contact Judy Isecke and Laurie Giofardino about future tabling events.

Jane Daniels brought up that it is assumed we will have an event on I Love My Park Day on May 4, 2013. It was decided that we should feature the newly renovated pavilion six. It will be necessary to find someone to be in charge of the event.

David suggested an event for the day after Thanksgiving – Walk off the Turkey.

Jane contacted the Disc Golfers who indicated that they pick up trash and were not interested in helping in other capacities.
