    • Railroad spur was built, but removed when the hospital was not to be built
    • The Civilian Conservation Corps camp was for Veterans of World War I, not young men

Old Business:

  • Snow Shoe in the Park – Laurie Giafardino has sent a report to Jane Daniels to be filed and thus  be able to  help the event next year.
  • I love My park – Maura Staker
  • Has met with Brian and now  knows where the areas that need cleaning
  • Two groups have expressed interest in helping
  • Will report more details next time
    • Photography contest –Janice Turner
    • Met with the Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art who suggested an event in February, likely to cost $5-10,000 to stage. Would use professional photographers as judges, and apply for grants to cover expenses. Also, Janice wanted to explore the option of obtaining a grant from the state because there are environmental grants available for such projects. Janice felt that since the project was 12 months away it gave sufficient time to give serious exploration of collaboration with the art center.
    • It was pointed out that the group does not have 501(c)3 status and that given the size of the Friends, a large event is not practical at this time Janice said the 501c3 approval would coincide with the application for a grant since they are both in the pipeline and if it did not work out then we could still have the same event as planned at a local library . Janice was asked to come back next month with a scaled down plan for 2013.

New business:

  • Governance – Janice raised the question of conflict of interest with respect to Anwer Querishi’s company sponsoring the refreshments.  Janice raised the question of conflict of interest with respect to Anwer Querushi advertising his insect repellent product at the snow shoe event with free give-aways.  She felt that since he was on the Executive Board it was especially inappropriate for him to have free advertisement.  And since it is not a  well established or well known product,  we as an organization should be careful about who we endorse. She felt that allowing him to give away samples of the product was a direct endorsement and particularly important because it was absorbed through the skin. Peter Hoernes informed her that his sponsorship had been approved and that conflict of interest was to be part of the bylaws and in our procedures.
