Jane Daniels led the discussion on FoFDR events. She pointed out that there are 3 types which all need a Friends Table:

  • Off site which most likely has a cost to participate – Grange Fair
  • On site run by an outside group – walkathons
  • FoFDR sets up and run such as I Love My Parks Day

After brainstorming what needed for a Friends Table, it became apparent that an organized box with supplies was necessary. Based on her experience with another organization, Judy Isecke offered to set up a box and will donate a plastic tub to contain it. Jane agreed to send her the list that the group had developed. Laurie Giofardino offered to help with the project and be responsible for making sure after the box was returned that it had what was needed to head out again.

Jane next engaged the group in an exercise about running an event. Each aspect of running the event was printed on a card, which was then placed on a time line. It was easy to see how much upfront work was required prior to the event.

She led a discussion of suggested events that FoFDR could participate in: Hudson River Valley Ramble, Grange Fair, Yorktown Street Fair, and Peekskill’s River Front Festival. Which one to participate in depends upon the cost of the event and availability of volunteers. It was decided that FoFDR was not ready to host a hike for the Hudson River Valley Ramble, but wants to consider it for next year. The Grange Fair is $300 and unless we were able to get a reduced fee, it is cost prohibitive. Judy Isecke will check out the cost of the River Front Festival. No decision was made on the Yorktown Street Fair. It was agreed that FoFDR needs to do participate in at least one tabling event this fall. Laurie agreed to be in charge of the snowshoe event in early 2013.

We will be participating in I Love My Parks day in May 2013. Jane mentioned that having an intern from the Yorktown High School civics program was an asset to her in running the town wide event. She recommended that Brian consider applying to the program, which has both a school year and spring semester components.

Judy pointed out that we need a list of events. At the next meeting, everyone is asked to bring suggestions for both on and off site events.

Judy asked about t-shirts which identify us a Friend of FDR. Anwer will submit some logo designs at the next meeting. Jane said depending on how many t-shirts we order, the price ranges from $8-10. No one had a problem with buying a t-shirt.

Diane Press reported on the Heritage Weekend presentation. Approximately XX people attended the talk by Pam Silvestri. There were mixed reviews on the quality of the presentation. Dianne recommended a PBS DVD which is part of the American Experience series and includes information on the CCC in the one on the 1930s.

Peter asked if there were any other issues that people wanted discussed.

Adjourned at 9:10 pm

Respectively submitted,

Jane Daniels, Secretary
