Status of items suggested at April meeting

        Completed

      • Pam Lupfer - Vines in an FDR trail just south of barrier in Downing Park Followup- scheduled for Friday April 21. 
      • Jane Daniels - Take out an ad on Yorktown Trail Town's new map and join the Yorktown Small Business Alliance; Anwer moved we do both; unanimous decision to do it.

Partially completed more follow up needed

      • Install a pedestrian button and zebra stripes at the intersection of Strang Blvd  & Route 202. - Jane is to follow up with Dave Pagenelli, Yorktown's highway superintendent. Talk with DOT
      • From Susan Wagner in park office - a trail map that can be handed out; Jane will follow up with Trail Conference  have asked but no reply
      • Charlie Castranova - acquire a shed followup – (he and Bob discussed  where one could be put or was there storage space we could use);

Follow up

      • John Robinson - open the trail from the leech fields
      • Mark Kotkin - continue vine cutting
      • Charlie Castranova: rehab the stone building by boats; Bob said it was discussed at his meeting about Capital projects, but since there is no obvious use for it, it remains a low priority
      • Dianne Press - a tree walk and something for teens; follow up she will contact the teen center;
      • Anwer Qureishi – photography for teens; Go after corporate funding

Jane Daniels, President called the meeting to order at 7:30 pm. 

The minutes of the April 12 meeting were accepted

Financial Report – There is 2695.57 XX in the bank as of May 10. The decrease in the bank account was because we purchased $342.92 worth of painting equipment. 

Park Manager’s Minute (Bob Guarino)

    • Construction in pool area is warpping up: finishing the road behind the pool and sewing grass seed is all that remains
    • Fios is to be installed from Picnic area 4 to concession stand and then to the toll booths. Another line is to go from parking lot 5 to pool, police station and concession stand
    • Walks and a health fair are scheuduled this spring

Updates

    • National Heritage Area Grant update - Dianne Press: The text and photos for all five signs are up at Peeble Island. Rick Fisher located a map in the town archives that shows Mohansic Hospital and will be used on the sign instead of the one originally provided.
    • Recreational Trails Grant update - Jane Daniels: will be sending in for reimbursement of money spent to build the large board walk. 
    • I Love My Park Day - Saturday, May 6 Three people from the NY-NJ Trail Conference came to work on the bridge. Three folks with affilations with both groups came. Three Frriends and two new people rounded out the attendance. The later group planted red Osier Dogwood. The rest of the group worked installing butress supports on the bridge
    • Outlet Bridge Status- Jane Daniels: A work trip was held this morning to set up the activities for a worktrip on Friday.

Follow up

    • John Robinson has not been able to go out with Bob to see if the the trail from the leech fields can be reopened
    • Mark Kotkin - continue vine cutting; Jane will set up a group to come August 1st. She and Mark will discuss other possible trips.
    • Charlie Castranova reported via phone that he and Bob had discussed where to place a shed. Bob reported as soon as an area has been paved with the ground pavement from behind the pool area, a shed can be put there. Friends can paint it. 
    • Dianne Press - a tree walk and something for teens; follow up she will contact the teen center;
    • Anwer Qureishi will follow up about a photography for teens and his plans for corporate funding

    • Bird Walk - June 24 Dianne Press reported it would start at 8 at French Hill School
    • National Trails Day - Saturday, June 3- would start at 9 at French Hill School and visit the outlet bridge
    • Instead of nature walk - Walt Plankl will do a tree walk. He is to decide where he wants to hold it and report back in June. 
    • Teaching kids to fish - Walt Plankl was unable to attend, but said he would like to offer a class in June or July at the boat dock to explain about fishing. 
    • Annual Potluck - July 12 in pavillion 4
