Park Manager’s Minute (Bob Guarino)
Upcoming meetings Wednesday, June 15; July 13, 2016 – All meetings are at 7:30 pm in the FDR Park Office
Meeting minutes status:
Jane Daniels called the meeting to order at 7:35.
Minutes of the April meeting were approved and seconded.
Jane reported for Jim Brosnan, treasurer that there is 4205.62 in the bank account. He has prepared the 2015 tax return and will send it in before the May 15, 2016 deadline.
I Love My Park Day - May 7 - Only one person who signed up on Parks and Trails NY's website came. Eight members of FoFDR came as well as the Boy Scout working on his Eagle Project. The footings for the inlet stream bridge were built and the telephone poles put in place. Bob will notify the town police that the scouts will be working on Sunday afternoon. The curbing on the boardwalk was installed and the stone wall was made more passible.
Jane will lead a hike on Sunday June 5 at 7 for National Trails Day.
The Bird Walk with Bedford Audubon is on June 25, 7:30 am. meeting place not yet set.
Mark reported that a pound of wildflower mix for this region covers between 1-2,000 square feet. Where the wildflowers seed will be sown has not been determined. After much discussion, Mark was given authority to order between $250-300 worth of seed so that it has arrived when planting can be done in the next two weeks. Jane will send him the tax exempt number.
Jane has signed the memorandum of understanding with the Hudson River Velley Greenway who administers the National Heritage Area grants. She has not received her copy of the agreement back.
There are still problems with the Recreational Trails Grant. The Army Corps of Engineers (ACoE) has to sign off on gravel being used near a wetland and about the outlet stream bridge. Those projects are administered separately but request for approval from ACoE was done in one application. We are required to submit a request for reimbursement by July 1, but are not allowed to spend any money until ACoE and NY DOT have approved. A site visit with folks from the Albany parks office and the regional office is scheduled for May 24th.
Jane raised the question of does FoFDR want to hold their annual potluck BBQ and the Go to the Bottom of the Pool event. She stated that there needs to be someone responsible for each of the events and unless there is someone, the events will not be held. John was in favor of the BBQ because we have always held it. No decision was made, given how few people were at the meeting. We will decide in June.
A student intern from Yorktown High School, Leigh Kouril, has updated the website. Some of Anwer's photos will rotate on the home page. Leigh has improved the history time line and will add photos to it.
Park Manager’s Minute (Bob Guarino) The park staff is getting the swimming pool ready to be filled. Painting it requires 5 days of no rain. Bob is still looking for life guards. He is looking forward to having wildflowers planted in areas where it is hard to mow the grass. It takes staff one week to mow everything and then start over again.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:20.
