Peter Hoernes, President called the meeting to order at 7:34

Announcements – Jane Daniels: The Volunteer Center will list volunteer opportunities and we should take advantage of the free service to find volunteers to do service projects. Corporations look for service projects and Brian could list ones with the Volunteer Center. Projects that require little skill or supervising work best. Assembling picnic tables could be a project. He will develop a list.

        Acceptance of Minutes– approved April 11, 2012  

Treasurer, David Rocco reported

  •  Have $296.50 in the account. Must remind the bank every six months not to take out the $18 monthly fee.
  • Spent $69.58 for Friends sign which can be used at events
  • 56 members

Manager’s Minute – Brian Strasavich

  • Park is in better shape physically. 
  • Lots of events scheduled such as ASK, American Kennel.
  • ~1,200 picnic tables in park, replace ~100/ year @ cost of $170/table
  • Getting sweeper for parking lots, a second hand gator
  • Reminder that the NY Works grant is for electrical upgrade, solar water heater.

Bylaws – Peter Hoernes

  • Reviewed changes made from last time – officers serve for 3 years.
  • Voted to accept bylaws – unanimous
  • David Rocco will have a pro bono lawyer review and begin the process of submitting.

I Love My Park – David Rocco and Brian Strasavich

  • Event was to clean up the park and had 2 groups signed up to come;
  • With 48 hours notice and only 24 hours to “round up” people to participate, the event included an 18 minute visit by Governor Andrew Cuomo.
  • Staff and family from other parks pitched in to help.
  • In that short time, signs ordered, donations solicited, and projects added.
    • Assemble picnic tables
    • Plant flowers
    • Approximately 120 people participated, 55 picnic tables constructed, bags of trash
    • Press information is on website

How to run an event – Jane Daniels

  • Based on the challenges that evolved over the planning process, Jane handed out a one page flyer with suggestions on running events
  • Asked for further input
  • Brian, Dave, Peter requested electronic copies

National Heritage Weekend (May 20) – Dianne Press

  • Based on discussion on how to run an event, the following people will be assisting Dianne
  • Anwer Qureishi revised flyer which is posted on web
  • Jane Daniels will set up the Friends Table, Pamela and Oliver Wells volunteered to assist at the event.
  • Dave will take care of signs
  • Dianne has contacted Yorktown High School and will contact Panas and Lakeland high schools as well as Elks and Veterans.
  • Suggestion made to have Pam’s material projected, but she subsequently declined the offer.
  • Logistics of how to move people from Lodge to pool have to be finalized
  • Voted to give Pam Silvestri $50 for travel expenses as she is the outside expert on the CCC
  • Program will be held at the Lodge aka as Pavilion #1

Storage:

  • Brian has assigned FoFDR a locker in the park office. David offered to donate a 10’x14’ shed to hold things we need for events. Brian will find a place in the maintenance yard to erect it.
