Building a board walk

Submitted by Jane Daniels on Thu, 11/03/2016 - 1:07pm

A boardwalk is needed over a normally wet area on a trail on the east side of Crom Pond. Volunteers on previous work trips have built the structure. This frame needs decking in order to be useful. So come help nail down the decking on the "framed" board walk by drilling holes and then hammering nails. See the photos that show the work that has been done so far.

Bring water, work gloves, hammer or battery operated drill with at least two fully charged batteries.

Meet at the upper parking lot of French Hill School on Baldwin Road in Yorktown Heights by the start time to walk 0.8 mile walk to the work site.
The Park requires that all volunteers sign a Volunteer Service Agreement. Participants under 18 years old must also have a parent or responsible adult give permission on that form. Please print out the form, then fill it out, sign and bring it with you. You will only need to fill out that form once a year. The form will also be available at sign in.
This project is funded by a federal grant which requires that the Friends of FDR State Park match some of the expenses. We have to buy the materials and are reimbursed for volunteer labor. Thus you will need to sign in and out. Your volunteer time is worth $27.59 per hour.
Letting me know at helps me plan the work and means I will have enough home made cookies to share.
I look forward to working with you.
